Sign a petition to: Release Symbian Source Code to open source

Nokia Corporation & Microsoft Corporation: Release Symbian Source Code & Make It Open Source & Release latest update builds & Save the environment

Since Nokia cancelled all firmware updates for their Symbian phones &
Microsoft probably have no intention to keep Symbian OS, because they are concentrating on Windows mobile

I HEREBY DECLARE TO WISH FOR THE RELEASE OF
SYMBIAN OS SOURCE CODES AND LATEST BUILDS TO OPEN SOURCE
FOR DEVELOPMENT & FUNCTIONALITY REASONS FOR MILLIONS OF
SYMBIAN & S40 SERIES USERS ALL OVER THE WORLD

Symbian Os & Nokia's S40 series still cover 20% of mobile os shares worldwide according to "Statcounter - Global Stats"
According to other Global statistic corporations, like Gartner & Canalys the world share of mobile os, depending on the used browser to log on to the web shows that Symbian still has over 20 million users.
A lot of these people have trusted Nokia as their phone provider for over 20 years
these users paid lots of money to receive products that were long known as the best cell phones in the world, and they supported the Nokia Corporation and its Employees for a long, long time.

The biggest competitor in mobile Os already has open source projects and allows development and distribution all over the world
It would be a shame if the users of Symbian & S40 Series would be forced to change their phones, just because of functionality reasons, that some developers might be able to re-program and provide for others

AND, it would be an environmental catastrophe, if over 20 million phones were thrown away in the next 2 – 3 years
SO PLEASE SIGN THIS PETITION & KEEP SYMBIAN ALIVE BEFORE IT GETS FORGOTTEN

go here to sign the petition:

p.s. PLEASE spread the word to everyone you know and every tech and phone forum you know

Mediafire is finally back!

You have been patiently waiting for this and now its finally happening:

Mediafire is replacing Uploaded.net as my default file hoster!

The files are online and ready for download.

Disqus ready for action!

Disqus is now set up as our new commenting system and all previous comments have been imported.

I already announced that we switched to Disqus in this post...
In short those are the advantages of Disqus over the default Blogger comments:
  • Support for Disqus-, Facebook-, Twitter-, Google+ Accounts (you can also post as Guest without login)
  • No more captcha codes for loged-in users
  • Easier following up on your own comments
  • Easier communication with other users
  • Following comments of a specific post via RSS/Email
  • Improved view (new comments first) and comment ratings are available
  • Hopefully improved spam filter
  • Moderation of Comments is now possible for us
  • Support for attachements (e.g. photo's or screenshots)
  • Support for hyperlinks
Also important, the comments are still synchronised to Bloggers default commenting system.
That means, the old RSS feed for comments will continue to work!

And if we ever decide to leave Disqus (because it becomes a paid service or shuts down its doors), we will still have all the comments (including all future comments) and can easily switch back to our previous (or another new) solution.

So give it a try and drop a comment, tell me what you think about it!

Update

I made some small but significant changes to our Disqus setup:
  • removed advertisment
  • improved performance
  • fixed compatibility for mobile webbrowsers
Let me know if you notice any issues with Disqus, I am looking forward to some feedback ;)
Btw. thanks to Franz for his comment (made me realize that there were problems in mobile browsers)!

New Commenting System and other Blog changes

If you kept following us here, you know that we are working on the design of our Blog.

So here is a short heads up about what's changed recently.

Welcome Fabian!

I am happy to announce, that "The One Mobile Blog" team is growing.

Fabian, well known in the Symbian Scene as "huellif", is joining our Blog!

Best  known for his work on the "huellif CFW" and of course his recent work with the "Belle Delight CFW", he certainly is one of the most interesting persons left working on Symbian.

With his expertise and dedication in Symbian Modding and Developing, I am looking forward to lots of interesting posts by him.

I don't want to go into too much detail about Fabian, to give him the chance to introduce himself.
All I'd like to say in this post is:

Welcome Fabian, it's great to have you here!

New file hoster: Mediafire!

After lots of complains about my file hoster choice (uploaded.net), I was considering several alternatives.

None of them are fully satisfying for me, but I guess Mediafire is the best solution for you guys.

I am happy to see, that Mediafire changed a lot since I left it.
The new interface looks very promising and I think the only downside for me (coming from uploaded.net) will be the upload/download speed...

I hope you guys are happy with the comeback of Mediafire.
It will take a while until all my firmwares and tools are uploaded, but when they are, I will let you know ;)

Btw. Mediafire gives me 10GB of storage as a free user.
It may be enough for the start, but I would appreciate your help to increase my free space!

For every user who signs up to Mediafire with this link, I will get another free GB (up to 32GB additional space).
So if you don't have an account already, do me a favour and sign up using my link ;)

Click here and sign up: http://mfi.re/?7j0d0i6

Edit:
This is the new folder on Mediafire, maybe the file you are looking for is already uploaded:

(When all files are up, I will link it in the download tab to replace uploaded.net)

Blog Redesign in progress...

If you visited this Blog in the past few hours, you may noticed strange behaviour.
That's because I am currently working on a redesign (again) to keep the Blog appealing and up-to-date.

Not exactly sure where this is going this time...
I am sick and tired of the complains about uploaded.net, so I will keep an eye open for an alternative ;)
Something new that will come for sure is a "Contact" tab.
Bringing back the details to stay up to date and contact us for support in simpler ways.

Comments would be welcome if you have any suggestions!

Join Nokia's photography team in New Zealand

Nokia and Burton started a low light photography competition.
Being a passionate mobile photographer, I entered of course :)

The 50 finalists get a chance to try a Lumia 925, while the winner gets an all expenses paid trip to New Zealand!

If you consider entering that contest too, you can find the details here:
Rock the world with Lumia 925 low light photography for Nokia and Burton

I entered that competition with an older photo I took last autumn.

Herbstmesse Basel
I already shared it here a while ago, it was taken at the autumn festival (Herbstmesse) in Basel, using my Nokia 808 PureView.

You can help me to win (or at least don't make a complete fool out of myself by dropping out without any votes), by supporting my picture with a simple click on a single button!

Follow the link here, to visit the page of my photo.

Vote for my photo by pressing "Support Daniel"
You'll need a Facebook account to vote, but I assume that most of you have one :)
Voting officially starts by July 11, 2013. You can click the button now and you will get a simple email (or Facebook?) reminder, as soon as voting is available.

I would really appreciate your support!
So if you can spare the few seconds it takes to vote for me, please do it. And if you have a couple more seconds, hit the sharing buttons (Twitter/Facebook) and let your friends vote too ;)

I am alive!

My apologies to all of you who got worried about me disappearing from the online-world for so long!

Especially to my friend and project partner freaxs_r_us!!
(I'll do my best to contact you personally asap ;))

For those of you who followed me from the beginning, this unannounced break of mine was probably unexpected.

I don't have a real excuse or a specific reason for my absence from our blog... so all I can offer is an apology to those who were worried, disappointed or were let down by my lack of support!

no more CFW's??

Don't freak out after reading the title, I currently have no intention to stop my ongoing custom firmware projects ;)

But while browsing the web, I came across this news:
IMPORTANT NEWS BULLETIN 12-21-2012 FROM NOKIA:
Nokia will close open connection to Nokia Firmware Repository during January 2013 and Implement access control.
After this, the Nokia Online login is required to access Nokia Firmware Repository.
During transition phase (December 2012 - January 2013), both open and restricted channels are open, but the open channel will be closed at the end of January 2013
After this, application updates and device software downloading are possible only by using the latest software releases with service NOL login supported.
According to AAS, the story was originally published by the Slovak website "smartmobil.sk".
While for English readers this may be more helpful "Nokia to block unauthorised access to firmware images".

Will be interesting to see how this affects the (already dying) Symbian Modding Scene...

Happy New Year to you too, Nokia :(

One Year Anniversary!

This Blog was started exactly one year ago.

It started as a small platform for some test versions of my CFW and to make communication easier. The Blog has grown ever since then, all thanks to your support!

I recently started to work on the design and organisation, that work is now mostly done (a little bit fiddling with the categories and that's it).
I hope you guys like the result, feedback and new ideas are welcome ;)

Thanks to everyone who helped me on this project!!
Whether it was by creating mods and tools, sharing knowledge, testing for me, sharing feedback or even supporting me by a donation.
Symbian still has a great community!

A special thanks goes to nekeule who translated my N8 firmwares in the beginning and helped a lot to make them so popular.

Last but not least, thanks to freaxs_r_us who is doing the translations now and also joined me on this Blog as an author.

Have a nice weekend guys ;)

I joined....great to be a part of something again

freaxs_r_us joins the team!

"freaxs_r_us" is a well known name in the Daily Mobile Forum.

His (always up to date) language libraries for all Symbian/Belle versions show his dedication to the community.
He also did a great job as translator of the famous "Delight Belle" custom firmwares by nicesoni_ash.

I am happy to announce that we will work together to make "The One CFW's" even better!!

Since nekeule retired from my project, many people were missing the full translations by him.
freaxs_r_us will fill this gap and offer the translations for my N8 and 808 CFW's.

He will also become an Author on this Blog, so you can look forward to (hopefully many) posts by himself ;)

Welcome freaxs_r_us!

The One Symbian Blog is now on Twitter!

Twitter seems to be quite popular, so I decided to figure out what it is all about.
I have no idea how it works or what I am going to use it for... (support, news, off-topic?).

My username on Twitter is "theone1893" (the_one.89 was already taken)... you can follow me by hitting this button:

The account was created about an hour ago... there are no followers yet and only one "tweet".
If you have a Twitter account, make sure to follow me!
(or else I look stupid without any followers :p)

new premuim hoster

I don't have the patience to upload all my CFW's to free hosters like Mediafire.

Since my Rapidshare account expired, I was looking for a new premium hoster for my personal usage (and also for my CFW project). It looks like Uploaded.to is now one of the favourites in the Internet...
I don't know why, but many people are using it.

So I decided to go with that one.

My CFW's will be available on uploaded.to from now on. Tools and other small files will stay on Mediafire.

Rapidshare-mirrors are going offline...

If you own a premium account on a file hoster, you probably know that (for personal usage), rapidshare.com is not the preferred one in the Internet anymore.

That's why I am not planning to renew my account.
My account expired today, so I am now a free user.

That means all my files uploaded on rapidshare will be deleted automatically after 30 days of inactivity!

From now on, I will upload my files on mediafire only. I hope that's fine for you guys.

If anybody has some leftover rapids for me, I could keep my files online for some more time :)
As an alternative, if you want my files to stay online on rapidshare, download them once every 30 days :p

Edit:
I misunderstood the email by rapidshare. My files are not going offline in 30 days from today, it also affects files that were inactive for the previous 30 days. Some files will be offline by tomorrow!!

Make sure you download what you need as soon as possible, I don't have all files on my local disk and won't be able to re-upload them!

download traffic

I just figured out, that I can see some detailed stats about my hosted files on mediafire...
(last time I checked, that was only available for "Mediafire Pro" accounts)

I am currently hosting "3.7 GB" on the mediafire servers.

My currently hosted files were downloaded around ~15'000 times and caused a traffic of "870,5 GB"!

This statistic is only for "currently hosted files" on mediafire.
I usually get more downloads via Rapidshare and many people are creating mirrors and complete packages in their languages for their prefered forums... so I don't have a total number of downloads/traffic.

Also remember that internal versions are only hosted on Rapidshare (I have around 12GB files hosted on Rapidshare)...
But Rapidshare doesn't give me such detailed informations about downloads...

I get asked sometimes how many downloads my CFW has, so I though I share this information with you...
(I don't want to go into more detail about this, those are the only numbers I can get without calculating manually)
