Nokia 808 Case Replacement (disassemble and reassemble)

In this tutorial, I will show you how to disassemble and reassemble your Nokia 808 PureView.
You can use this knowledge for repairs or to switch the housing to change the colour.

A long time ago, I wrote a similar Review/How To about disassembling the Nokia N8.
According to feedback back then, my tutorial was missing pictures and detailed descriptions... I hope this time I did a better job in documenting the process ;)

Unboxing the Nokia Lumia 1020 & first impression!

Some of you may already heard that I ordered a Nokia Lumia 1020.

I recently posted a Lumia 925 unboxing, which I got for free with a renewal of my contract (it will be a Christmas present for my brother)... now I got to unbox the Lumia 1020 and this time, the phone is for myself (replacing my Nokia 808)!

For the Lumia 1020 I paid 400.- CHF (~325.- Euro) with a renewal (24 months) of another family members contract (letting me use that subscription was kind of a birthday present to me :)).
At this point, I would also like to thank Franz for his generous donation, making the Lumia 1020 even more affordable to me ;)

I pre-ordered the Lumia 1020 at the end of September, which means I will get a free camera grip.
Unfortunately I will have to wait for that accessory, it is not available yet in Switzerland.

Last Tuesday my Lumia 1020 arrived and I took a few pictures of it for this unboxing :)

Unboxing the Lumia 925 and my first impression

I recently had the chance to renew my contract and that got me a Lumia 925 for free :)

So here are a few pictures from me unboxing the Lumia 925 and also a few next to the Nokia 808 for size comparison.
Also included in this post is my first impression about this device.

Something up ahead, the Lumia 925 is the most gorgeous Nokia device in a long time!

Photography: 808 vs N8 vs 920 vs 820 Part III

I recently went outside equipped with the Nokia 808 PureView, the Nokia N8, the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Nokia Lumia 820 to take a few pictures for a short camera comparison.

For easier publishing and more convenient reading on your side, I decided to release the result in multiple posts.

In case you missed the first two parts of this comparison, you can find it here (Part I) and here (Part II).

Beat the Pink out of the N8!

How much damage can the Nokia N8-00 take?

Looks like my sister asked herself the same question, probably more than once :)

About a year ago, I patched her pink Nokia N8 up with some replacement parts I got from Leno.
Leno sent me a some parts to repair my own N8. Which I used to create an exclusive green/black Nokia N8 (documented here) and a pink/silver N8 for my sister.

Meanwhile, her N8 took quite a beating from several (unintentional) drop tests...
Continue to see a few pictures of a two years old pink Nokia N8.

PureView “Creative” vs “Auto” Settings (low light)

Saturday, 01.06.2012
My favourite football club "FC Basel 1893" won the Swiss championship!
I took lots of pictures at the huge party that went on all night long.

While my first few pictures with "Automatic" settings weren't that great, adjusting the "Creative" settings in the 808's camera interface made a real difference.

Here are a few low light pictures and tips and tricks, based on my experience last Saturday.

Camera Samples Lumia 620

As promised, here are a few camera samples taken on the low end Windows Phone 8, the Lumia 620 (unboxing).
The Lumia 620 sports a 5 MP camera (no Carl Zeiss branding) and offers 720p Video recording.

For only 250.- CHF it is one of the most affordable Windows Phones out there.
But in comparison to the even cheaper Lumia 520, the 620 offers all the sensors you need (e.g. compass), a brighter screen, LED flash, etc...

Long story short, the Lumia 620 comes without the compromises and limitations of the Lumia 520 for only 50.- CHF more.

Unpacking: Lumia 620 (Black)

I got the Lumia 620 today, it will belong to my sister (yes, I have a lot of sisters :p).
The Lumia 620 is available in many colours, not sure why anyone would pick the boring black one... but my sister did.

Here is a link to the specification sheet on gsmarena.com.
What makes this phone special is the fact, that we see Windows Phone 8 running on a 250.- CHF phone.
The price puts the 620 to the low-end market, but looking at the specifications, there is hardly any compromise in functionality. You get a lot for your money on this device.

So here are a few pictures of me unpacking the black Nokia Lumia 620!
Sorry about the picture quality, I took them indoors with flash enabled... handling the powerful xenon flash of the Nokia 808 PureView is difficult at short range.

Unpack: Lumia 920 (Black)

Here are a few pictures of me unpacking the black Lumia 920.
All the pics are taken by the Nokia 808 ;)

For technical details about the Lumia 920, I recommend to take a look at gsmarena.com.

What makes it stand out of the crowd, are these facts (at least in my opinion):
  • Display: 4.5 inches, PureMotion+, ClearBlack, 768 x 1280 pixel (332ppi), Corning Gorilla Glass (2)
  • PureView Camera: 8 MP (3264 x 2448 pixels), Carl Zeiss, Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS)
  • Qi wireless charging: read more in my previous review about the DT-900/DT-901

bad weather photography

Here are a few shots I took yesterday, they are all taken in bad weather conditions.
I think that makes it more interesting, since most phone's on the market are all delivering good quality in good light conditions these days...

Those are the phones I used in my test scenario:

Nokia 808 PureView
The current camera phone champion and best Symbian phone ever made!

Nokia Lumia 820
The higher mid-range Windows Phone 8 device. As powerful as Nokia's current flagship the Nokia Lumia 920, but not exactly a camera centric phone. Still equipped with a Carl Zeiss lens, promising decent results.

Nokia E7-00
The 1st generation Symbian^3 phone is representing the 1st generation EDoF camera's used in devices like the Nokia C7 and Nokia X7. With the limitations of the EDoF technology, it was never meant to be a true camera phone... but it's surprisingly capable of producing excellent results in good light conditions.

Review: Nokia DT-901 Fatboy (wireless charging)

Ok to be honest, this is more an "Unpack" than a "Review".

I just got the Fatboy charging pillow today so I can't really compare the speed of charging by cable or wireless...

Just though some of you may be interested in some pictures and a few comments about this product.
I hope you guys enjoy the read, after all it was quiet on this blog for too long ;)

Bloggers Diary - looking for a Battery Replacement for 808

Hi guys,

I was looking for a battery replacement for my 808... a better one, since this is the procedure I do with all my phones, because after modding the ******* to smithereens I always have issues with the power consumption...

I found something: Battery issues? Not anymore ;) Read here

Review: Nokia 808 Introduction

This is the first part of my Nokia 808 Review.
I am going to introduce the phone in a short way and try to tell you whats coming in future parts of this review-series.

After almost one month with the Nokia 808 (as my main phone), I finally found some time to write a few words about it.

Review: High Capacity Gold Battery (2430mAh)

The Nokia N8 is shipped with a 1200mAh battery by default.
At today's standards that's not very high, but thanks to the Hardware and Software optimisation by Nokia it is not bad at all...

I already published a Review about the battery life of Nokia's original battery on my CFW:
Review: The One v4.7.1 Battery Life

As you can see there, the battery lasts long enough when you use it carefully. But there's still room for improvement...

I had very good experience on my old Samsung I8910 HD with non-original batteries.
After Leno (a user of my CFW) recommended me the "gold battery", I though why not giving it a try on the Nokia N8.

Review: Nokia N8 Case Replacement (disassemble and reassemble)

After one and a half year, my N8 got some scars and scratches. It definitely didn't look like a new phone anymore.

I didn't really care about a few scratches, but after the bottom clip (or battery cover, or however you want to call the lower plastic part) broke off I had to do something to fix it.

Review: The One v4.7.1 Battery Life

I like to start this new catergory "Review" on my blog, with my own product:
"The One v4.7.1" CFW for the Nokia N8

Something I get asked a lot about my CFW is battery life.
Many people are not happy with the N8's battery life, so I decided to write a review about the N8's battery life performance with my latest custom firmware v4.7.1 (the results should be similar for all my cfw's (since v4.4.0)).

Of course I already tooked a deeper look at the battery life of my CFW while I was creating/testing it, but I never published details about it... so here are the results of my tests, for everyone to read.

Review: introducing a new catergory on my blog

Since I don't have anything new to offer right now (regarding CFW's/Mod's), I though I could give you guys something to read :)

I am starting a new catergory on my blog, if you read the title of this post you already know its "Review".
