v5.2.0

An update for my Nokia N8 custom firmware.
Read the changelog to see the differences to previous versions.

A special thanks goes to all the people who helped me test v5.2.0 (since I don't have an own N8 anymore).

  1. This firmwire (v5.2.0) and v5.1.0 have "restart" phone option?

    1. btw thanks for great firmwire!

    2. the restart option is not included by default.
the mod you are looking for is the modded sysap.exe... as far as i know its not fully compatible to belle refresh and you need rompatcher and a patch to fix the bugs its causing.

thats why its not included, to keep it easy.
(people who can handle the bugs, can add the mod themself :))

    1. or should i simply delete this "file" in options?

      Delete
    2. Yes you have to delete this file which is in red color.
In case any other file is in red you need to replace with respective file.
You can read how to flash guide which explains things better

      Delete
    3. thats correct, you open the file list via options and remove it.
i am working on brining my blog up to date, i will also update the flashing guide about this...

    4. thanks for the help. I ' m sorry but now i ve got another problem, i klick on Refurbish, than ok, connect my turned off phone, the flashing status bar is stillstanding, and my N8 starts loading. After a few minutes
I ve read the guide but i dont know what i make wrong, sorry :)
Should I make what phoenix says with the 8 sec power button?

      Delete
    5. that happens often when you flash for the first time...
your pc needs to install the drivers for flashing, if its not ready in time, the phone connects in usb mass memory mode.

just try a few more times (and btw. i always ignore the instructions by phoenix, as mentioned in my tutorial)

    6. thanks again, now the flashing progress started. But then
      User Data Area erasing failed
      Unable to flash phone 0x8401F173
      Starting to recover the phone
      Recovering phone

on the screen it shows testing mode, i retry flashing, failed.
I disconnected it hold the power butten, and i'm happy that my phone isn*t dead.

Do you have an idea why it fails?
(sorry that i give you a lot of trouble)

    7. yes, i know that problem... i get it when i try to flash the n8 or e7 via phoenix v2012.x. (even though x7 and 808 are working fine).

uninstall your current phoenix version and try the version i uploaded in tools section.
(v2011.38 (or something like that), it works for the n8 (at least for me))

    8. ok, thanks. I try it out, I used the phoenix 2012.x
      I thinked newer = better :)

    1. you can replace the default fonts before flashing via nokiacooker here:
      rofs2\resource\fonts\

you should also be able to do it after flashing by adding them to c:\ (search for a tutorial in the internet or on daily mobile forum)

    2. I've tried this, but still not working. Changed positioning server default operator by Nokia's server, also not working. the problem is that agps not using wlan conection. Sorry for my bad english and thx for your answers...;)

    3. well, i think this issue is maps related and not because of my cfw.
you can try to flash my cfw, with the "uda without maps" and install another/previous maps version yourself.

    4. I also tried it with the version 5.1, same problem. the problem would not he moving maps to rofs2? I am a regular of your cfw and never seen this problem.Thx for all...

  8. Hi The One, I'm Mike, first thank you for all your great work !
    I have 4 problems with 5.2.0
    1. I can't copy my fonts on c:\resource, "can't open file c:\res..."
    2. comms contacts widget won't load, when I try to reinstall it, install 50% and then "unable to install"
    3. earpiece sound is poor, BIG problem (in 4.7.1, my last, was very good)
    4. in music player, when I click on every song: "General: System error"
I'm using your 5.2.0 with edited rofs2 and core with N.Cooker 2.9 for fonts, effects, writing lang and your old simple green avkon.
This is my 1st problem with your CFW on my N8 since 2011...
Thank you and... Please HELP !

    1. hi mike,
      1. you need rompatcher & open4all patch activated to get full access to c:\
      2. are you using any translation, it is working fine on my original english/german version... did you change the ecom files?
      3. any more details about this, i got lots of feedback that it got much better with v5.2 than it was on v5.1
      4. you must have broke something when editing my original files. a problem like this would have been detected by other users...
(how did you test the sound in headphone, when the music player is not working?)

    2. Thank you for your quick answer
      1. in ALL your previous versions I've had full access to c:\ by default, for checking I installed rompatcer lite and saw that open4all and installer was already active. What I have to do in 5.2.0?
      2. no translation, I only use freaxs_r_us Drag & Drop to ROFS2 writing language (romanian)
      3. problem is only in the call sound (earpiece and headphones) the sound in loudspeaker is high and clear. When I try to make a call, the sound is low only in earpiece, with loudspeaker is good (at max level ofcourse)
      4. when I try to open a song with music player general error occurred, but with default file manager the file is played well...
but major problems are sections 1.2. and 3 !
What steps should I follow to have full access to c:\
(I will refurbish again my phone with 5.2.0)
and to have a better sound, like was in the 4.7.1 ?
thank you again for your quick answer !

  9. I am using 5.2.0. I installed Nokia Store using SW Update. I installed several apps successfully from the Store. Now I am trying to install fMobi and stuck on downloading (over an hour). I cannot "Pause" the download. Restarting Store makes no difference - the download tried to resume. Other internet applications work.

I tried to uninstall Nokia Store but it does not appear in the list of installed apps!

    Can anyone help? Many thanks.

how did you flash (update or refurbish)?

i guess you already tried to restart the phone and try again?

      are other qt apps working?

(btw. the store does not appear in installed apps, because nokia doesn't want it there... (if you installed it via sw update at least))

    2. I left it and after a LONG time fMobi did install correctly. The new update 3.5.0 also froze for ages but eventually installed correctly.

I'm not sure which other apps are QT.

    1. have you tried to add your animation?
      it will work for sure.

there is no default startup animation (nokia shake hands) anymore...

    2. Hi the One..with Luky again..Where I put the startup files...in c:\_tools\startup\ (like you wrote in the 5.2.0 changlelog) or c:\data\_tools\startup\...? And can I put wav file for the sound? Thank's

      Delete
    3. hi luky,
with the default filebrowser its "c:\_tools\startup\"

via most 3rd party filebrowsers its "c:\data\_tools\startup"

to make it easy (and to avoid this question:p), my cfw creates that folder automatically. the folder already exists, you can not miss it.

the filename has to be "startup.mp3", but if the wav plays fine on the phone, you can maybe just rename it... (test the file and play it via filebrowser, if it doesn't work you need to convert it)

      Delete
    4. Hi the One..I want to say thank you very much for helping me..now the startup animation works finely...but how to create the shutdown animation? Thank's ;D

      Delete
    5. since belle, there is no shutdown animation.
only the splashscreen.mif, which is in z:\resource\apps\
(to change it, you need to reflash or use joshlog patch)

did you clean up e:\ and f:\ and used refurbish?

connection problems are sometimes an issue when updating from different firmwares.

i read the conversation, but i don't think its a general problem of my cfw. i never changed anything for bluetooth/wlan...

Is it possible another app could have upset Qt? which versions of Qt, mobility etc should I have?

    1. i don't know where the problem could be...
no changes in qt, its still the latest original that comes with belle refresh in my cfw.

if anybody could confirm this is a cfw problem, i could take a look at it. otherwise, i can not check for every app, when someone reported a issue (especially not paid apps).
      i hope you understand...

you can try to reflash with v5.3.0. test situations first, before you install any other stuff...

    2. Do you know what the version number fo QT and QT mobility should be?

I won't reflash just yet... takes hours to set my phone up just right!

    3. sorry mate, i don't remember the exact version number of every qt component.

i also don't have a 1st gen device to test right now... i already switched to the 808 :)

as i said, its supposed to be the same version as on every belle refresh device. maybe you can ask somebody you know, or in the inet/forums?

maybe somebody else here can check it?

  13. Hello JP,
did you find a solution for your 'Situations problem' meanwhile?

I have the same problem (there is no 'bluetooth button' in Pastelli Labs
situations) with v6.2 on my N8.

    ***************
    @the one:
    ***************

I flashed (refurbish) my N8 yesterday after a hardreset *#7370#. I didn't cleaned or formated my sdcard, because there are so much data (14 GB) on it. After flashing, i restored my backup from the sdcard. Everything works fine, except Pastelli Labs Situations.

Could you undertake, Pastelli Labs Situations will run perfect, after reflashing my N8 and intalling Situations to the internal massstorage and without my sdcard in the N8.

Best regards and many thanks for your 'RAM-Saver-CFW' ;-)!

    3. Oh I've still kept mine in case I ever decide to go back to it!

In many ways the N8 is a better phone than the 808:

      * I'm not convinced the 808 photos are *that* much better.
      * The N8 is much more compact.
      * The N8 battery lasts much longer.
      * My N8 never crashed (my 808 has crashed twice in 3 months).
      * Swype works on the N8.
      * The N8 memory card is externally accessible (undernath the battery on the 808, a right pain).
      * The N8 has a dedicated charging connector.

All of those things have been annoyances on the 808.

      Delete
    4. * I'm not convinced the 808 photos are *that* much better.

N8 photos are not bad, but 808 is in an other league.

      * The N8 is much more compact.

      Yes

      * The N8 battery lasts much longer.

Depends mainly on software, if you keep good track of background applications that consume resources, the 808 can last a week. But there are quite allot of situations in which you won't reach that time by far. I think that is not acceptable.

      * My N8 never crashed (my 808 has crashed twice in 3 months).

Software again. I never have crashes on my 808

      * Swype works on the N8.

Software again, patched Swype 1 and 2 both work on Belle FP2

      * The N8 memory card is externally accessible (undernath the battery on the 808, a right pain).

      Agreed

      * The N8 has a dedicated charging connector.

Yep, but microUSB is more common.

The 808 has quite some advantages compared to N8:
      - better camera (also faster, with more manual control)
      - more powerfull flash
      - brighter screen (better outside readability)
      - double ram, makes Symbian more stable
      - better audio quality
      - faster proc
      - user replaceable battery

In conclusion, if you like Symbian, you should buy the 808, it's easily the best Symbian phone ever made!

    5. > N8 photos are not bad, but 808 is in an other league.

I disagree. In the same league maybe a couple of places higher :) Both are excellent, of course.

      > if you keep good track of background applications ... the 808 can last a week

I'm sorry, I really don't believe this. How?

      > Software again. I never have crashes on my 808

It's a known hardware fault. See here (and elsewhere):
      http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Nseries-and-Symbian-Smartphones/Bug-in-808-3g-mobile-data/m-p/1776182/highlight/true#M305821

      > * Swype works on the N8.
      > Software again, patched Swype 1 and 2 both work on Belle FP2

Excellent! Please point me to the patch for Swype 2.1 because I had to reflash and use Swype 1.0.

      > * The N8 has a dedicated charging connector.
      > Yep, but microUSB is more common.

There are circumstances when I want to use the microUSB and charge at the same time (e.g. USB OTG). It increases the wear on that single connector. Also, I had to buy new vehicle chargers!

    6. Hi, Doesn't the new (jan '13) beta for Swype work? http://betalabs.nokia.com/trials/swype-for-symbian

      anyway, I used "Swype_v2.1.4436_SA_Sym3_NAM", but I can't remember where I downloaded it.

For batterytime: check with a program like qooSystem under "TASK", view all types of applications, and search for applications that have a high number in time. (it's a LONG list), high numbers are compared to uptime of phone, if it's been online for multiple weeks, 1000s may be normal. but after one day, that's too much for a background application.

With fairly heavy use (1 hour gaming per day, multiple hours of music) I get 2 to 3 days, when only used as a phone, a week is doable. I use GSM, no 3G, but frequent Wifi. I had multiple issues with programs not closing correctly, and reducing battery time to hardly 1 day.

No - same issues of Swype covering the input screen.

      > "Swype_v2.1.4436_SA_Sym3_NAM", but I can't remember where I downloaded it.

You have never seen this bug? It makes Swype unusable for most users.

*ahem* Yes. Exactly. I never had that with the N8.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 808. But unless you are rich, the N8 has much to commend it over the 808.

i've still no bluetooth-button in Pastilli Labs Situation. After getting an update for Situations yesterday, i flashed my N8 again, today.
    Flashing details:
    - refurbished
    - formated Massstorage
    - Hardreset *#7370# before flashing
    - no SDCard inserted (not while flashing and not after flashing)
    - doesn't restored any data
