no more CFW's??

Don't freak out after reading the title, I currently have no intention to stop my ongoing custom firmware projects ;)

But while browsing the web, I came across this news:
IMPORTANT NEWS BULLETIN 12-21-2012 FROM NOKIA:
Nokia will close open connection to Nokia Firmware Repository during January 2013 and Implement access control.
After this, the Nokia Online login is required to access Nokia Firmware Repository.
During transition phase (December 2012 - January 2013), both open and restricted channels are open, but the open channel will be closed at the end of January 2013
After this, application updates and device software downloading are possible only by using the latest software releases with service NOL login supported.
According to AAS, the story was originally published by the Slovak website "smartmobil.sk".
While for English readers this may be more helpful "Nokia to block unauthorised access to firmware images".

Will be interesting to see how this affects the (already dying) Symbian Modding Scene...

Happy New Year to you too, Nokia :(

  1. This will effect the backward flashing, also, right? I mean: when I return from a cfw to the ofw, I need the Firmware Repository, right?

    1. the way i understand this is, we won't be able to download original firmwares anymore.

if you already have the firmware files, nothing will change for you...

but if there is a new firmware we can not get the files to modify it/flash it via phoenix.

  6. about the thread title and topic: we are not sure if we won't be able to get the firmware directly over phoenix when it won't work in navifirm

  7. Hope we will still get those great CFW from you... anyway, I understood there won't be any official updates for the Nokia N8.
