The One N8 v5.1.0

The device that got the most request for a new "The One CFW", finally got one!

The One N8 v5.1.0 is currently uploading and ready for you in a few minutes.

It's based on the latest Belle Refresh v111.040.1511.
The firmware has ~215MB free space on C:\ (with Maps preinstalled). A separate UDA without maps will be available soon (this will give you some more space on C:\).

As always, detailed informations can be found in the changelogs.

Nokia Maps are not integrated into rofs this time, they are fully installed to C:\.
I think in long terms that's the better choice, to make sure we wont have issues updating them.

Since all of you waited so long for this, I hope this version reaches up to your expectations.
I am looking forward to your feedback ;)

  2. Great stuff, I've also not found one major issue with any firmware you've put out since ver3.

Everything works and works well. I can't thankyou enough for what you've done for the phone and the community.

    A+++ work.

    1. hi cobrin,
nice to hear from you again ;)

thats right, there were not much bugs (and no major/showstopping ones) in a long time.

but i still remember v1.4.0, a hard reset was causing bootloops and you had to reflash your device :p

  3. hey i flashed the belle refresh version. upon finishing the flash, the circle buttons on bottom that reads the one keeps going off, but nothing else happens. what should i do?

  4. ok update, originally i flashed the belle refresh (wif maps) and replaced the rofs3 wif the chinese rofs3 and proceeded to flash ^ occurred. then i flashed it with the original files provided, it worked fine. so the chinese rofs 3 provided is not compatible with belle refresh?

    1. yes i am sorry about that...
still re-organizing things on my new hoster.

i put up a note, that the keyboards are untested on v5.
maybe some less complex writing languages still work.

for obvious reasons, i can not test them all

    1. it does not install??
what version are you trying to install?

anyway, get the latest nokia store via the "sw update" directly on the phone.
(its way faster than via sis installer anyway ;))

  7. Hi,

    1. hi Hamed,
      thanks for the kind words.
about your request. even with the green battery icon, i got lots of complains and people who were asking about to change it... thats why i left it default this time.

you can change it yourself by replacing this file via nokiacooker before flashing: "core or rofs2\resource\apps\avkon2.mif"

or you can change it without flashing via joshlog patch. you will find that one on daily mobile

    I would greatly appreciate it.

  10. Thank you One, I have been using your FW for awhile now and it really is a step up.

One quick question before I update again. I have been trying to use the 3.5 mm VGA output without success using an OEM Nokia cable. Is it possible that CFW has changed something about the video out that prevents it from working?

    Thanks in advance.

    1. hi mike,
i tested the vga output once myself. it was fully working.
check your phones settings and make sure they match your tv-screen.
(i did not test it on v5, but there is nothing that should interact and break this feature)

    2. Great thanks for the quick replay and the confirmation, I'l give it a go again.

    3. Arg, still can't get 3.5 mm VGA out working…. I know I've read this somewhere but can't seem to find it, If I want to test the official FW, do I just flash the official files from navifirm? Or do I need to go through some other hoops first?

Also I'm thinking go going back to your last firmware version just so that Nokia Reader works again (and the new web browser seems pretty sluggish)… Are there any steps needed for going back a version?

      Thanks again.

    4. hi mike,
your request made me wonder if there actually is a problem in my cfw... i tested it and i think you are right.

the vga cable (originaly from my n95) is working on my 808, but not on the n8.

official firmwares (assuming its the same version or newer), can be flashed right away. if you want to go back on the base version, you need to downgrade first (via scandinavian firmware to pr1.0).

if you flash the original firmware, please report to me if tv-out is working there! i would appreciate it.

    5. btw. i would test it myself, but as you may know the device doesn't belong to me anymore.
i am sure i can get it back to do further testing to fix it, in case this is a cfw problem and not a belle refresh bug...
so if anybody confirms it to be working on original belle refresh, i will take a look at it.

(but to be honest, who doesn't have a hdmi cable (or actually enjoys the image you get via vga?)?)

(things like this is exactly what i predicted, when people asked me to create a cfw without my own device :p)

      Delete
    6. Ha, I just got the VGA out to work! I think the jack was dirty and not making good contact, I blew the hole out with compressed air, probably fuzz or something from my pocket.

I would have preferred HDMI, but the screen in my vehicle only accepts VGA inputs.

I still think I may downgrade to The One CFW 4.7, because the Nokia Reader was compatible with that and the performance of 5.10 is very sluggish for me.

I really appreciate your help and firmware work.

      Delete
    7. just to get this right, vga out is working for you on v5.1.0?
if thats true, it was probably a problem on my old n8 (the 3.5mm jack is not actually new (sometimes even had issues with the headphones) :P)

      Delete
    8. Yes VGA working again. Lesson learned.

Two quick questions, the internal change logs have moved? Not sure if I should go back to 4.7 (what I had before) or 4.8. Also just to be clear, when rolling back your custom firmware to a previous custom firmware version, I still need to use the official Scandinavian FW first?

      Delete
    9. thanks for confirming.

i am currently reorganizing my blog. the old internal changelogs, will be available as txt in my uploaded folder...
(the folder archives already exists, but i didn't had the time to upload them).

you need to downgrade via scandinavian fw everytime you change the base version to a lower number.
      so from v5.x (v111.040.x) to v4.x (v111.030.x)...
v4.8 & v4.7 are both v111.030. so no need to downgrade first.

btw. thats why my versioning is as it is (read more about it in "description - about versioning"). the same base will always have the first major number.

    11. Hi the one, me again, I'm thinking my upgrade to v5.1 is somehow messed up because the startup dots on the screen have turned into little broken steering wheel icons.

I reflashed again without switching the rofs3 for spanish language keyboard and there is the same issue still.

Are the dots supposed to have changed?

    12. hahaha, that comment made my day! :)
you are talking about "the one" splashscreen. try to read it ;)

you can change it in rofs2\resource\apps\splashscreen.mif

  12. Hi the one,
glad to see this new cfw! One question before flashing: will the tutorial to decrease volume for 3.5mm output still work like in former firmwares?

    Big thx and best regards

    1. hi simonx,
if you read the changelog, you will see that there is no mod to increase the 3.5mm output volume. you don't need it anymore

      Delete
    2. yes true - i was so fixated on this - as i read increased max. volume i thought about iExtraX7's mod. So lets get it on :)

    3. I miss the restart button at power menu. Didn't you integrate it or did MS Apps kill it?

      Delete
    4. as you can see in the changelog, the restart option is not preinstalled.

the reason is, as far as i know its not fully compatible to belle refresh.
you would need rompatcher and the "High level volume fix for new Belle refresh"-patch by iextrax7.

you have to install sysap yourself, if you miss it that much.

  14. RESEND & AMENDED

Hi there.. Great work on the CFW v5.1.0.. May I know whether there's an issue regarding Contacts when receiving calls or messages? i.e. Only phone number displayed, not name and image of that person..

A conflict regarding International prefix (+6).. After adding the (+6), only the name displayed when receiving messages but not when receiving calls..

I was wondering whether there's an issue regarding it?

    Thanx..

    1. well, on previous belle versions this was a typical problem, when you used "update" instead of "refurbish".

did you do a clean reflash?
otherwise, some old files/settings probably conflict with belle refresh...

    2. Hi there..

After waiting patiently while downloading The One v5.1.0, I hard reset the phone, format both the mass memory and the memory card.

Refurbished the phone, tested it out and ultimately smiling with satisfaction :)

This is truly 'The One' CFW that will stay on my phone. Got it handed to you bro.. You really made my day!

Excellent and keep up the good work..

      Cheers from Malaysia :)

    1. you can, but there are some system files that may conflict with the new belle version.

you can try it and see how its going. if you get any bugs, or the performance feels bad, you can always flash again with cleaned up drives...

(btw. thanks for the question, i will add it to the faq (not that my faq is properly linked on my blog yet:p)

  21. Hi! I think this question haven't been asked before. I have my phone encrypted. Do I have unencrpyt it before flash it ?

    Regards

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. that's a good question... sadly i don't know the answer to it.

i can only make you a suggestion, based on my experience on pc's:
(assuming you can flash an encrypted phone)
-you may lose the encryption key. without that, you will not be able to access your data anymore
-even if you can re-enter the encryption key, that may be not possible at the first boot. you will have problems, because the phone can not access the mass memory

so to make sure everything goes well, i suggest to disable the encryption and re-enable after you flashed and reconfigured your phone.
